Pinatas are a staple at any child’s birthday party, and they’re also the perfect do-it-yourself project for adults that want to enjoy some quality time with their kids. Here are 11 cute DIY pinata costumes you can whip up in an afternoon or evening that will bring joy to your celebration!
1) The Unicorn: This costume is easy enough for even the youngest of crafters, and it’s guaranteed to make your little one feel like royalty on his or her big day. All you’ll need is white paper plates attached together with black pipe cleaners (or another color if desired), then covered in glitter glue and allowed to dry overnight before wear.
2) The Spiderman: Who doesn’t love a hero? This one is great for little boys and girls alike, with all the materials you’ll need to make this costume found at your local dollar store:
black or red tights
clear fishing line (or any other string)
an old T shirt
cardstock paper cut into strips in various lengths of about two inches wide by 12″ long. The longer the strip, the bigger Spiderman’s web will be! Please note that if you’re using a dark color like blue or purple, it may be easier to use hot glue instead of tape since these colors do not show up well on tape without an additional layer of paint. You can also substitute white pipe cleaners for a brighter looking spiderweb.
a bucket or bowl
hot glue gun and sticks
marker pen
black pipe cleaners or aluminum foil for the arms (optional)
To do: Cut two strips of cardstock paper, one that’s about 12″ long, and another strip that’s approximately three inches wide. Make sure you use an old T shirt because it will be cut up to make Spiderman’s web later on in this project! Tape together the ends of both strips with tape so they form a looped band measuring about six feet across. Place your “web” over top of a large pot or any other container like a wastebucket, then wrap clear fishing line around the loops as many times as needed until the band is a tight enough to stand on its own.

old T shirt and scissors (to cut up)
paint, glue dots, small fabric scraps for decorations
To do: Turn your bucket upside down so it stands upright like an enclosed bin with no top. If you want to make Spiderman’s web later on in this project then use strips of black tape to attach two pieces of cardstock paper together forming another looped “band” that’s about six feet across. Tape one end of your “web” overtop of the opening at the bottom of your wastebucket while wrapping clear fishing line around loops as many times as needed until they
stand upright.
