Carly Simon is a singer-songwriter who has written many popular songs. She was born on June 25, 1945 in New York City and her father was the Broadway composer Richard Rodgers. Carly studied at Bennington College and graduated with honors from Barnard College. In 1965 she released her first album called “The Sound of Silence” which became a hit single that same year. Her song “You’re So Vain” reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for six weeks in 1972 and 1973 when it was covered by Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show Band led by Doc Severinsen.”

The song “You’re So Vain” was written by Carly Simon and her brother Peter. The lyrics are about a guy who is vain, full of himself, but not in the usual manner that one might think. Rather than being self-centered or wanting to be seen as better than others, he cares only for his own beauty: what he looks like when people see him from outside; how he feels inside. He knows this makes him vain and doesn’t care because it’s an aspect of himself that causes no harm to anyone else.

He may look at his reflection all day long without getting tired of what he sees and admire what nature has given him while marveling at its perfection every time someone new enters the room; he may be in love with himself, but he’s not so vain as to think that he deserves admiration from others.

Carly Simon has a voice which is gentle and soothing yet the lyrics for this song are anything but; they’re angry and hurtful words directed at someone who doesn’t care about anyone other than themselves: “You’re puttin’ me down/ I’m feelin’ kinda used.” The singer knows it isn’t right to get mad at him because she’s been guilty of those same feelings herself when she was younger. It wouldn’t have mattered anyway if she hadn’t done what she did because all her anger would’ve gone unheeded.

The composer Doc Severinsen wrote an arrangement based on Carly

Simon’s song that is heavier and has a more upbeat tempo. It doesn’t make the lyrics any less difficult to hear but it does allow for some release in feeling as well as hope, which may not have been present before.

The video features Carly Simon singing live with different shots of her face alternating throughout; there are also clips from various performances such as on Saturday Night Live and The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson during the 1970s.

Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain” has long been a famous example of her pain and anger being unleashed on someone who hurt her deeply throughout the years. The lyrics are somewhat obscure at first glance with phrases like “Your scarf was artfully arranged.” But after listening to the words more carefully, one will realize that this person wore his clothes deliberately giving off an air of sophistication even while he treated people poorly – including Carly Simon herself. Not only did this person boast about all these wonderful qualities when he knew they would be seen by
