It’s the weekend, and I’m spending my Saturday morning as a Stevie Wonder encore. When we first met it was with Songs in the Key of Life, but this time around I’ve gone all-in on Talking Book to start off another round of musical discovery with what turned out to be the third album that really cemented his role as one of pop music’s greatest artists.
I had been trying for years to find just one good song by him when someone suggested “Superstition” – which became an instant favorite – so naturally their other songs were worth exploring too. Except they weren’t there because after some searching Spotify told me he only has three albums available (or did at least until recently). So instead of doing the usual thing and then just forgetting about it, I decided to take on my licensing-less Stevie Wonder challenge by listening to all three albums as close together as possible.
Right off the bat, Talking Book was a pleasant surprise considering it’s his debut album.
