The world of Pokemon is an ever-evolving one, and new competitive battling strategies are being developed all the time. Every few weeks or so, a new strategy will come out that changes the game for everyone. The last big shift was when Mega Evolutions were introduced to the mix – they turned many mediocre Pokemon into monsters. But with every passing season comes change, and now we’re on to Gen 6! In this article I’ll be ranking my personal favorite Pokemon in competitive battling from best to worst.

Tier List: The Best Pokemon in Competitive Battling

tier list

 Tier 0 (The Best): Mega Charizard X, Yveltal, Xerneas, Zygarde |\\ Tier I (Very Good): Volcarona, Jolteon, Gengar, Scizor| \\  Tier II (Good, But Slightly Worse Than Above): Greninja, Kyurem-B, Latios| \\ Tier III (S

omewhat Below Average): Hydreigon, Greninja (non-mega), Rotom-Wash| \\  Tier IV (Below Average/Usable In Limited Situations): Tyranitar, Quagsire, Toxapex, Venusaur

Tier 0: The best Pokemon in the game. These are Pokemon that you can use to win matches and tournaments with ease. They have a variety of movesets and abilities and their stats are usually balanced enough so they can function well in any situation or matchup. Not every single member is necessary Mega Charizard X because it’s hard countered by Steel types while Yveltal has Speed and power, but both are Tier 0.

Tier I: Pokemon that are excellent in every way. These Pokemon have few flaws and can do well against any opponent due to their high stats, great movepools, or amazing Abilities. Whether they’re part-Steel type so the weakness is negated (like Mega Aggron), a unique typing like Torterra with enough coverage moves for anything such as Earthquake, Stone Edge and Synthesis; or just an all around perfect balance between offense and defense like Dragonite*, these are your top picks unless you want to specialize

\f0\par }}{\pard\plain}%{||\\

Tier II: This tier consists of strong Pokemon who may not be quite on par with those in Tier I

\f0\par }}{\pard\plain}%{||\\

Tier III: These Pokemon are solid, but usually have a weakness that limits their usage and/or makes them harder to use. They’re still good picks for players who want a diverse team or don’t mind carrying around the burden of an imperfection

Tier I: Dragonite, Gyarados, Metagross, Salamence

Tier II: Charizard-Mega-X, Scizor (Bulky Swords Dance), Tyranitar (Choice Band)

Tier III: Garchomp (Dragon Claw + Outrage), Kyogre (Only in raining weather due to typing disadvantage against Electric types), Mewtwo X (+

Bulk), Salamence (Dragon Dance)}%{ \\\\f0\par }}{\pard\plain}%{ *\f0\par }{\rtlch\absh16840 \lang25533}\ri3086 \fs20 A-Tier: These Pokemon have high usage and/or raw power in the current metagame. They’re good picks, but usually lack a key trait that limits their effectiveness or usability

A+ Tier: Kyogre, Zapdos (Only on rain team due to typing disadvantage against Electric types), Moltres, Diancie (Essentially unbalanced at this time)

B Tier: Tyranitar, Blastoise, Sciz

or, Mewtwo X (Bulky), Gengar, Latios (Only in rain team due to typing disadvantage against Electric types)

C Tier: Gyarados, Dragonite, Landorus-I (bulky), Volcarona

D Tier: Terrakion, Alakazam, Jolteon (Choice Specs set only)

E Tier: Venusaur, Conkeldurr izard-MegaX, Charizard Y.

F+/User’s Choice Tier – These Pokemon have niche or nonstandard sets that are not widely used on the ladder and do not warrant a higher tier placement at this time. Some of these Pokemon may be placed into one of the above tiers if they become more relevant in the future.

Blaziken, Machamp, Conkeldurr (Drain Punch set), Rotom-Heat

Honorable Mentions: izard-MegaX Scizor, Empoleon (), Manectric (Only on rain team due to typing disadvantage against Electric types) Rapidash, Registeel (somewhat outclassed by other Steel type Pokemon at this time), Gyarados Tyranitar (<=Currently Unranked) Lilligant Sceptile Lucario Heracross Kadabra Victini Serperior Snivy Shuckle Bronzong Heatran Swampert Cobalion Darkrai Shaymin Deoxys-A Genesect Gallade Cresselia

Tier is comprehensive, but these Pokemon are considered borderline.

Blaziken Tier: B+ Blazikens high speed makes it a formidable threat capable of sweeping unprepared teams with its STAB High Jump Kick and Brave Bird in tandem or by itself after setting up a Swords Dance; however, this means that if Blazikens team does not have the proper support to keep it safe from revenge killers such as Scizor or Conkeldurr, then its sweep will be stopped short. Overall though, Blaziken remains one of the best all-purpose fighters on the tier list thanks to how effective its offensive typing allows it to hit most types for at least neutral damage regardless of their defensive typing
