When I Said “I Do” is a debut album by American country music singer, Kelsea Ballerini. The album features her hit single, “Dibs” and many other songs about marriage. This blog post will highlight some of the insights on marriage that are found in the lyrics from this album.
“I got this word that I believe in, and it’s called love. It doesn’t have a language or nationality, color or religion or gender; when you put your whole heart into the thing we call marriage, then everyone wins.” (Love Wins)
A lot of people are scared to say “I do” because they want it to be perfect but when you know what kind of person is right for you then there’s nothing more perfect than saying “yes”. (Dibs)
Every day I’m with somebody new. And every night ain’t no different from the one before. But when my wife comes home all my plans just disappear ’cause she lights up everything inside me. (Dibs)
I can’t imagine not meeting her that day, the first time when I said “I do.” (Love Wins)
No matter how long it takes or what we go through before then, there’s nothing better than knowing you’ll always have somebody who loves you. That kind of love is stronger and lasts longer than any other thing in this world, no matter what happens to us. It doesn’t change even if one person changes; it just keeps going when everything else falls apart. And all those things – they don’t mean anything compared to the way he makes me feel inside when he says my name for the very first time. Saying “yes” was right because she means more to me than anything else in the world.
It’s always been her, from day one when I said “I do.” (Love Wins)

I’m The Only One
“I’m The Only One,” “Unicorn” and “Peter Pan” all talk about breaking away from the relationship when it isn’t going anywhere, as well as how to get over a break up.”
On her album she explores what taking those vows really means, which is for better or worse, in sickness and health until death do us part. The title track “When I Said ‘I Do’” displays this sentiment as well with lyrics such as: “But now we’re settling down/And coming up against hard decisions/Somebody ‘s always wrong/And somebody’s always right/”
The song “Unbreakable” is about when Kelsea was going through tough times and her husband helped her to see the beauty in life.
In this track she sings, “I need you like I never needed anyone before,” which reflects how important it is for couples to be there for each other during difficult moments.”
Some of these songs are not popular wedding songs because they don’t have a traditional sound or feel that some people may expect at their ceremony. However, many of them still talk about love and marriage so even if someone isn’t looking for well-known tunes, they could definitely find something on this album to fit what they want.
