Are male cats supposed to have nipples?
Yes, but they’re not useless. The males do produce milk for their kittens and the breasts are there just in case he hasn’t been able to find a mate or if his female partner is unable to nurse him. If you see your kitty licking at her chest, she’s probably nursing herself because she can’t get food from mommy cat. It may also be that what we think of as “nipple” behavior could really be marking territory–cats rub up against objects to leave their scent on them when they want it marked as belonging to them only. In this case, the act would serve no purpose without making contact with an object so close inspection might reveal signs of spraying urine
What do male cats use their nipples for?
Male cats lactate and are able to nurse kittens if there is no mommy cat around. They can also use them as a way of marking territory- they often rub against objects or other animals to leave behind their scent, which will smell like urine in this case. If you see your kitty licking his chest area, he’s probably self nursing because the mother isn’t available or she isn’t producing enough milk.
If my boy doesn’t have any hair on its face does that mean it’s not really a boy?
No! Cats don’t grow beards until much later than when masculinity kicks in at puberty (usually). So the laciness of a cat’s chin and jaw is an indicator of gender, but not the only one.
Cats have nipples even though they don’t nurse their kittens?
Male cats do lactate to feed their babies when motherhood isn’t available or in order to keep up with growing appetites during puberty. They also use them as a way of marking territory- males often rub against objects or other animals to leave behind their scent, which will smell like pee in this case. If you see your kitty licking his chest area, he may be self nursing because mommy cat isn’t around or she can’t produce enough milk.
What if my female has no hair on her lower stomach does that mean it’s not really a female?
This hairless region is called “a estrus” and it’s the time when a female cat can get pregnant. It usually lasts for about two weeks, but sometimes more or less depending on how old she is.
Can male cats have nipples?
Male kitties do indeed have nipples – they arise at puberty (usually). So the laciness of a cat’s chin and jaw is an indicator of gender, but not the only one. The other way to tell if your guy has what some would consider girl parts are his chromosomes- if he doesn’t have XXY, then there’s no need to worry! But as mentioned earlier in this post, boys kittens will grow pubic hairs sooner than their sisters
